A survey of multiple tree visualisation

Received: 22 December 2008 Revised: 3 July 2009 Accepted: 23 July 2009 Abstract This article summarises the current state of research into multiple tree visualisations. It discusses the spectrum of current representation techniques used on single trees, pairs of trees and finally multiple trees, in order to identify which representations are best suited to particular tasks and to find gaps in the representation space, in which opportunities for future multiple tree visualisation research may exist. The application areas from where multiple tree data are derived are enumerated, and the distinct structures that multiple trees make in combination with each other and the effect on subsequent approaches to their visualisation are discussed, along with the basic high-level goals of existing multiple tree visualisations. Survey of Directional Felling and Analysis of Effective Factors on Felling Error (Case Study; Iranian Caspian forests)
Economic and environmental logging is important for sustainable wood production in the Caspian forests, north of Iran. Predetermination of the skid trail network and directional felling is a usual recommended method to reduce logging impact. The aim of this study was evaluation of directional felling and finding factors effective on felling error. Totally 135 trees were selected randomly for di...
متن کاملPhylogenetic Trees: An Information Visualisation Perspective
The development of powerful visualisation tools is a major challenge in bioinformatics. Phylogenetics, a field with a growing impact on a variety of life science areas, is experiencing an increasing but poorly met requirement for software supporting the advanced visualisation of phylogenetic trees. Visualisation problems within the domain are commonly experienced by its researchers, but are poo...
متن کاملThe Visualisation of Uncertainty in Spatially-Referenced Attribute Data using TRUSTworthy Data Structures
This paper presents the use of hierarchical spatial data structures to visualise attribute and spatial uncertainty when using spatial information systems. This is demonstrated using spatially-referenced data from the New Zealand 2001 Census. Firstly, selected current spatial visualisations created to show uncertainty were assessed in an Internet survey, revealing that overall there is not many ...
متن کاملDetailed Scheduling of Tree-like Pipeline Networks with Multiple Refineries
In the oil supply chain, the refined petroleum products are transported by various transportation modes, such as rail, road, vessel and pipeline. The latter provides one of the safest and cheapest ways to connect production areas to local markets. This paper addresses the operational scheduling of a multi-product tree-like pipeline connecting several refineries to multiple distribution centers ...
متن کاملLatour - A Tree Visualisation System
This paper presents some of the most important features of a tree visualisation system called Latour, developed for the purposes of information visualisation. This system includes a number of interesting and unique characteristics, for example the provision for visual cues based on complexity metrics on graphs, which represent general principles that, in our view, graph based information visual...
